Club Concert Schedule
The Cochrane Valley Folk Club is dedicated to bringing world-class music to the Town of Cochrane. Our season runs from September to April each year with typically 8 concerts scheduled in that period. Our regular venue is the Cochrane RancheHouse providing a great listening atmosphere for an appreciative audience. The club does not operate during the summer months as all our volunteers are out enjoying the many great festivals held throughout Western Canada.
Headliners for our upcoming season are usually chosen very early in the year in consideration of season ticket sales.
Artist Selection Criteria
The Cochrane Valley Folk Club strives to showcase a mix of musical styles (folk, blues, roots, gospel, bluegrass, world) each season. We feature both established performers and emerging artists, usually as opening acts. Canadian and Alberta based talent is our mainstay however select international artists will also appear each year. If you would like to be considered for a spot in our lineup, the following criteria should first be considered:
- Musical Genre - preference is given to acts featuring traditional folk styles. Our audience appreciates singer-songwriters who can entertain and expand on their songs. For a better idea, visit our Past Performers page.
- Material - those artists with a minimum of 1 CD and experience at various folk festivals will have an advantage. Although we love to feature new artists as openers, with only 8 concerts each year, our goal is to bring the best acts available to the folks of Cochrane.
- Variety and Sharing - A concert at our club is more than just the music. We are seeking artists that can demonstrate a variety of musical directions and share their life stories with us. A great concert should leave the audience with a new perspective and something new on which to reflect.
- Performance - Although CDs and links to myspace sites provide some great insights into a musician's capabilities, nothing beats seeing an artist live. Many of our selections are based on having seen someone previously in another venue. The summer folk festival circuit is the biggest resource in our selection process.
